  • Prescription-only medicine belonging to a group called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).

  • Used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure.

  • Works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body.

  • Take once daily, usually at the same time each day.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a drink of water.

  • Can be taken with or without food.

  • Doses often start low and may be increased gradually by your doctor.

  • Common side effects include feeling dizzy or lightheaded, headaches, throat or respiratory infections, and back pain.

  • Can cause low blood pressure (hypotension) or changes in kidney function, especially when starting treatment.

  • Serious side effects include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema), severe dizziness, or fainting. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.

  • Do not take if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as it can cause harm to an unborn baby.

  • Regular blood tests are needed to check your kidney function and potassium levels while taking this medication.

  • Avoid taking potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without consulting your doctor.

  • Be careful when standing up quickly from a sitting or lying position to prevent dizziness.

  • Avoid driving or operating machinery if the tablets make you feel dizzy.
