For adults, apply the ointment twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening, and after each bowel movement. Do not apply the ointment for longer than 7 days. If your condition does not improve, speak to our clinical team.

Uniroid ointment should be applied thinly to the affected area around the anus. If needed, you can apply the ointment deep into the rectum by using the applicator that comes with the product.

Follow the instructions below to ensure appropriate use of this medication:

• Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the topical ointment.
• Take a pea-sized ointment and apply it thinly on the anal area with the help of your fingers or using the nozzle to help insert a tiny portion of the ointment into the back passage.
• When applying using the nozzle, the nozzle of the Uniroid HC ointment must be tightly screwed to the body of the ointment tube.
• Then, gently squeeze the tube until such time that the ointment nozzle is filled with the ointment.
• Gently insert the nozzle into the rectum of the patient and squeeze out the contents lightly.
• Withdraw the nozzle very slowly, and then make sure you thoroughly clean the nozzle with soap and water after every use.
• Never cover the area that was treated with Uniroid HC ointment with any waterproof dressing or bandage because it can increase the risk of an allergic reaction.
• If you happen to apply more ointment than necessary, make sure to wipe off the excess ointment using cotton wool.

In the event you miss a dose, it is safe to apply the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if enough time has passed that you should be applying your next dose instead, simply skip the missed dose and resume your typical application schedule.

Always use this medication exactly as your clinician has told you. Check with our clinical team or your GP or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Just because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.

The most commonly reported side effects include:

• adrenal suppression (risk increases with overuse)
• skin reactions including rash
• thinning of the skin
• vision disorders

Do not use Uniroid if you have any of the following:

• If you have tuberculosis
• If you any kind of skin infection

This product is not recommended for use by pregnant women or those who are planning to get pregnant. The safety of this medicine for use during pregnancy is not clearly established yet. Corticosteroids may be absorbed into the bloodstream when applied in the anal area and could be harmful to the fetus. It is also not recommended for use by breastfeeding mothers. Your doctor will recommend this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding only when it is clearly necessary.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. These include:

• Hives
• Dizziness
• Fast or pounding heartbeats
• Wheezing
• Difficult breathing
• Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

It is important that you let us know which prescription, over-the-counter medicines and recreational drugs you are currently taking. You must also tell us about any other medical conditions that you currently have (or had in the past). This will help us ensure the prescribed medication is safe and appropriate for you to take.
