Prescription-only beta-blocker medicine.
Used for high blood pressure, angina (chest pain), and heart failure.
Works by slowing the heart rate and helping the heart pump more efficiently.
Take once daily, usually in the morning.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Can be taken with or without food.
Take at the same time every day.
Common side effects include cold hands or feet, feeling tired or dizzy, nausea, headache, and a slow heartbeat.
Less common side effects include sleep disturbances, nightmares, and muscle weakness.
Serious side effects include severe shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, swollen ankles, or fainting. Contact a doctor immediately if these occur.
Do not stop taking bisoprolol suddenly, as this can cause a spike in blood pressure or trigger chest pain.
Tell your doctor if you have asthma or severe COPD, as beta-blockers can affect breathing.
Can mask the symptoms of low blood sugar if you have diabetes.
Avoid driving or operating machinery if the tablets make you feel dizzy or sleepy.
Alcohol can increase dizziness when taken alongside this medication.
