  • Prescription-only beta-blocker medicine.

  • Used for high blood pressure, angina (chest pain), and heart failure.

  • Works by slowing the heart rate and helping the heart pump more efficiently.

  • Take once daily, usually in the morning.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

  • Can be taken with or without food.

  • Take at the same time every day.

  • Common side effects include cold hands or feet, feeling tired or dizzy, nausea, headache, and a slow heartbeat.

  • Less common side effects include sleep disturbances, nightmares, and muscle weakness.

  • Serious side effects include severe shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, swollen ankles, or fainting. Contact a doctor immediately if these occur.

  • Do not stop taking bisoprolol suddenly, as this can cause a spike in blood pressure or trigger chest pain.

  • Tell your doctor if you have asthma or severe COPD, as beta-blockers can affect breathing.

  • Can mask the symptoms of low blood sugar if you have diabetes.

  • Avoid driving or operating machinery if the tablets make you feel dizzy or sleepy.

  • Alcohol can increase dizziness when taken alongside this medication.
